When one thinks about the oeuvre of Tim Storrier, fire lines and vast expansive landscapes imbued with melancholic nostalgia come to mind. Storrier typically works in a grand romantic tradition which is based upon four key elements: earth, stars, fire and air. The limitless combinations of these elements are what drives his practice, but a slight tweak to the formula delivers a vastly different experience. His most recent body of work still includes these hallmarks, yet the offering is smattered with an air of absurdity and playfulness.

Menzies is honoured to present for private sale Tim Storrier’s Splotcher, a monumental painted bronze which represents a new paradigm in the artist’s practice.

Following Storrier’s exploration of the sculptural realm with his celebrated Wayfarer, Impedimenta, Tully’s Baggage and Voyager casts, Splotcher emerges as a figure which is at once jovial and poignant, offering a glimpse into the private emotional underpinnings of Storrier’s world, perhaps as a pseudo-self portrait.

Created in an edition of only 3, one of which will be retained by the artist, Splotcher represents an exclusive opportunity to acquire a three-dimensional object of resonance, gravitas and humour.
