When visiting her friend Sydney Ure Smith, Preston saw a drawing by his eight-year-old daughter, Dorothy. She took it home, traced it into a woodblock, and later hand-coloured the resulting prints. Impressions were sold by Walter Taylor at Grosvenor Galleries, with half the profits going to Dorothy Ure Smith.
