Watson began painting in 2001, well into his sixties, yet quickly rose to acclaim. Guided by his heritage and ancestral narratives, he painted intuitively, bringing his mother’s and grandfather’s stories of country to life. His work is informed by his unique understanding of the topographical landforms of his homeland and the Tjukurpa laws that underpin it. He combines bold and vibrant colour palettes with intricate dot work to bring these stories to life and Anamarapinti 2006 is a superior example of his illustrious and revered style.
