Related Works:

Note: In 1919 Lipchitz drew up a series of approximately eight known works that were modelled in plaster, some of which were based upon human figures with instruments; after the war these plaster sculptures were placed in storage. Lipchitz later re-visited the works in the 1970s and completed them in marble and bronze as had been his initial intention. The present work, together with the two below mentioned works, form part of the group of eight related works. Arlequin à la Clarinette 1971 (after a 1919 plaster), marble, 112.5 cm height, sold Menzies, Sydney, 23 June 2011, lot 45, $842,727 (incl. buyer’s premium), private collection, Sydney Seated Bather 1970-72 (after a 1917 plaster), marble, 137.0 x 53.0 x 44.0 cm, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York Pablo Picasso (1881-1973, Spanish), Harlequin 1915, oil on canvas, 183.5 x 105.0 cm, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, illus. in Palu I Fabre, J., Picasso Cubism 1907-1917, Könemann, Barcelona, 1990, p.455, pl.1384
