Our research includes:

• Authentication

  Our specialists evaluate each item to ensure objects purchased through Menzies' are authentic.

• Provenance

  We review ownership history, supporting documents including exhibition catalogues and literature references and check relevant databases to substantiate a work of arts ownership history. Although Menzies' specialists make every effort to ensure the accuracy of each catalogue description, prospective buyers are encouraged to conduct their own enquiries. The identity of a seller or previous owner may not be disclosed in our catalogue for privacy reasons, or because the previous owner's identity is unknown.

• Condition reporting

  Every item comes with a condition report outlining its condition at time of sale. This service is free of charge. We remind prospective buyers that each condition report is a statement of opinion and should not be relied upon as a statement of definitive fact. We do recommend prospective buyers to view items in person where possible to satisfy themselves as to its condition and are encouraged to consult a professional conservator for a more detailed assessment if required.

• Estimates

  Our specialist teams expertly assess the market value for each item and assign an estimate range to give you guidance on what we think it will sell for. Our auction estimates take into consideration the condition, rarity, quality and provenance of the work and prices recently paid at auction for comparable works. Estimates, unless otherwise stated, are in Australian dollars, are inclusive of GST and do not include the buyer's premium.
